Case Study: Supporting Workforce Wellbeing at Albury Wodonga Health

Delivering Responsive, Integrated Mental Health and Wellbeing Support in a Regional Healthcare Environment

Albury Wodonga Health is one of Australia's largest regional health services, supporting approximately 3,500 employees across a diverse and demanding healthcare environment. From frontline clinical teams to operational and support staff, employees are often exposed to high-pressure situations that can impact their wellbeing both at work and at home.

Acacia has partnered with Albury Wodonga Health to provide a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program (EAP), ensuring employees and their immediate family members have access to confidential, professional support when they need it most.

A key part of our approach has been creating a locally embedded service model, including a physical presence in Wodonga. This allows employees to access face-to-face counselling close to where they live and work, while also ensuring Acacia can respond quickly when onsite support is required.

In healthcare settings, critical incidents can have a significant impact on individuals and teams. Acacia has provided multiple onsite responses following high-impact events, delivering timely, trauma-informed support that helps employees process difficult experiences and focus on recovery. By providing immediate assistance and ongoing follow-up support, we help reduce the potential long-term impacts of workplace trauma and psychological distress.

Alongside counselling and critical incident response, Acacia delivers ongoing group supervision for employees working in high-risk roles. These sessions provide a safe space for reflection, professional support and open discussion around the challenges of working in healthcare. Through regular supervision, employees can build practical coping strategies, identify concerns early and strengthen their resilience in the face of ongoing workplace pressures.

This combination of proactive and responsive support has helped increase engagement with wellbeing services, encourage earlier help-seeking behaviour and build confidence among employees in accessing support when they need it.

Our work with Albury Wodonga Health demonstrates the value of accessible, locally delivered wellbeing services that are tailored to the realities of the healthcare sector. By combining counselling, critical incident response and ongoing workforce support, Acacia helps create healthier workplaces where employees feel supported, connected and equipped to thrive in challenging environments.
